Biography

Riley is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Sociology at UCLA studying gender, race, and education. Her previous research explored race and gender inequities in K-12 schools, including a project that is currently under review that analyzes science educators’ perceptions of Black girls in the classroom. Riley is currently pursuing an ethnographic project that examines the ways LA stand-up comedians portray gender and race in their comedy sets and in turn, how audiences receive these portrayals. She is also collaborating on an experimental survey project that explores the effect of time commitments and race on the motherhood wage penalty.
