Biography

I am fascinated by the study of power and power dynamics, particularly in the context of race, ethnicity, and immigration.

Broadly speaking, I am interested in how global value hierarchies are manifested in quotidian interactions. In particular, I like to question the relationship between Asian diasporas and the Western world, including but not limited to second-generation identity and Western migration into Asia.

My currrent project examines how ethnic restaurateurs in Los Angeles challenge and/or perpetuate stereotypes embedded in notions of cultural authenticity.
