Informational Interview Project

Informational Interviews

Informational interviews are key to exploring professional prospects. The UCLA Sociology Department, in partnership with Alumni Affairs, works with students to teach informational interview skills and connect them with alumni from the department. Through this program, students build their professional network and explore career options.

Students practicing informational interview skills

An informational interview is a brief meeting with someone in a career or industry that you are considering. It is a chance to get first-hand information and advice specific to your interests. In addition to gaining knowledge about the field, informational interviews allow Bruins to meet professionals and begin to establish a network of contacts.

Students gain many professional skills from conducting informational interviews including: interviewing skills, networking, professional etiquette and career planning.

Interested in getting involved? We are always accepting:

  • Students interested in conducting informational interviews with alumni
  •  Alumni willing to be contacted by students
