On Saturday, June 11th students, families, and friends gathered in Wilson Plaza to recognize and honor the achievements of the Class of 2011. Professor William Roy opened the ceremony enthusiastically congratulating students on their achievement and recognizing the invaluable support of their families and friends. The ‘Voices of the Class of 2011’ followed with moving speeches from Daneille Brown, Pardis Farhadian, and Keila Perez, and Professor Tanya Stivers then gave special mention to our honors students.

Keynote speaker Elena Davis was announced by Forrest Stuart, a graduate student who is currently working on a project in collaboration with Elena’s ‘I Am Waters’ foundation. Elena’s candid speech told of both her remarkable life and of the experiences which inspired her to create ‘I Am Waters’.

Following Ms. Davis’s speech, Graduate students Amada Armenta, Anthony Ocampo, and Jon Sigmon were introduced by V.C. of Graduate Studies, Steve Clayman, and were hooded by their faculty advisors. Finally and to loud applause and cheers our undergraduate students were invited onto stage to receive their ceremonial degrees in Sociology from UCLA.

Congratulations Class of 2011!
